Dear Mr. FIelosh,

You’re an amazing teacher and always know how to put a smile on my face even when I’m having a bad day. Thank you for actually caring about how we feel and how we are as individual people while still teaching us Spanish. You make our class fun but also very easy to learn, which I appreciate. You're one of the teachers that I’ll always definitely remember,

Thank you so much!

Awa Cisse

Dear Miss Morrell,

Thank you for making me actually like math somewhat. You’re an amazing teacher and always know how to put a smile on my face even when I’m having a bad day. Thank you for actually caring about how we feel and how we are as individual people while still teaching us math. You’re one of the teachers that I’ll always definitely remember,

Thank you so much!

Dear Mr. Consorte,

If I were asked who the best teacher I ever had was, I would not hesitate to answer with your name. Through your teaching, I have better myself, gain the knowledge needed to succeed in college, and obtain more academic opportunities. Being a student during a global pandemic has been difficult. Learning through a computer is draining, and dealing with technical difficulties can be exhausting. However, as a student that has done both in-person and online learning, I can undoubtedly say that you did your best to make sure that no student was at any disadvantage. The amount of thought, preparation, and effort you put into teaching every class is prominent, and it is clear that you care about each student you have, wanting them all to succeed. The environment you have created inside your classroom has pushed me to follow my dream of becoming a college professor. I hope that one day I will become a great educator just like you and inspire the many students that come into my classroom. I want to thank you for motivating me and pushing me to be the best student I can be.

Sincerely,

Anaelecea Turcio

To Ms.Diguilio,

You are literally the best teacher I think I’ve ever had. I’m not just saying that to seem nice. I genuinely mean it. You explain everything we are learning so well and always go through every piece of information perfectly. I have understood every single assignment and subject we’ve worked on because you teach us so well. I remember all of the material you’ve given us, and I could tell you every piece of information you’ve taught us. That’s how amazing you teach. The amount of time you put in for us and the amount of work you do so we understand Chemistry is insane, and you deserve so much more recognition. This is your first year teaching, and it is so amazing that you go so in-depth with our class that I understand everything you’re teaching. You were my student teacher last year in AP Bio, and my whole class absolutely loved you. I was so happy when I got my class list and saw that you were my chem teacher. You were an amazing student teacher, and you’re an even better chemistry teacher. Your class is definitely my favorite, and I actually enjoy going to chemistry every day. Your outfits are always so cute, and you always make class more fun. Your energy is unmatched, and your class is exciting despite covid’s limitations on it. You’re a teacher who gets it. You understand what it’s like to be struggling and to be our age. You were doing mental health activities before any of my other teachers, you’ve been the only teacher to offer me help, and you show you genuinely care. Which I’m sure everyone in my class is thankful for. All of your reviews zooms, mazes, labs all help me so much. At the beginning of the year, we had to write down a goal in English class. I wrote down that I wanted to have an A in Chemistry. I was so scared that chem would be a hard class that I wouldn’t do well in, but you’ve made chem such an easy and understandable topic to achieve my goal. Thank you so much for everything you do, especially in the midst of a pandemic. I appreciate you and your work, our class appreciates you, and all your other classes appreciate you. You deserve every bit of recognition you get.

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week!.

Daniel Patricelli

Dear Mrs. MacNeil,

Thank you for all the hard work and dedication you put into your classes each day in school. As a student interested in technology, I find your classes to be informative and entertaining. You implemented most of the computer coding classes in this school from scratch, which took a lot of time and effort to achieve. You are responsible for teaching generations of students who will build the near future with the skills they gained in your classes. Even with the disadvantage of being a woman in a male-dominated work zone, you’ve pushed past that barrier. You continue to inspire hundreds of people to learn about computers and gain the important skill of coding, which is imperative to many jobs nowadays. I believe that you should get the recognition you deserve!

Thank you for being an awesome Teacher!

-Morgan Montz

Dear Mrs. Rice,

I can see how much effort you put into the International Club every year. I remember the International Club was the first club I joined after moving to West Haven because I wanted to interact with people from different places. It really is an amazing club, and I’ve learned so much about different cultures and foods. I appreciate everything you’ve done to make the club a great one, and I’ve had a great time being a part of it so far, and I am happy I can help out while it’s online.

Happy Teacher’s Appreciation Week!

Danielle Ricketts

Mr…… DANDELSKEEEEE

How are you doing, Mr. D? Hopefully well. I Can't believe that almost 3 years ago, you met your favorite student in your first-period global studies class. Ever since then, you’ve allowed me to come into your room and draw many Freds on your whiteboard. I know you will miss me when I graduate next year, as will I miss you. Thank you for dealing with my shenanigans every year, and thank you for the giant KitKat on my birthday. Just because you were trying to cut sugar doesn't mean I cannot buy you two bags of M&Ms for Christmas. Thank you for making my school year entertaining and for teaching everyone about history.

The student whose lowest grade in your class was an A-,

Raquel Camey

P.S. I‘m taking AP U.S History next year, and there is no stopping me >:)

I, Lance Andriulli would like to thank Ms. Martin in Issues and Government for all the help she has given during Mr. Pelatowski’s class. She is great and I truly appreciate her help.

Thank you,

Lance Andriulli

Dear Mrs. Cosenza,

Thank you for constantly encouraging me and the students in our class every step of the way. Without your guidance, we would not have been where we are today. You inspired me to be a better person, with every class being filled with love and passion. Throughout the year, you pushed me most as a student and a thinker. Not only did the Skills push me as a student but the passionate answers to every student's question helped me understand the skills much clearer. I have learned so much in your class and I am very grateful for it. It was very fun throughout the year, especially when you let us study/play with the beach ball. Every class was fun and filled with adventures. I am so glad to have passed the exam, and I have no doubt it was your help that made the difference. Thank you for your patience, compassion, thoughtfulness, kindness, and flexibility during a time like this. I really appreciate what you have done especially at times like Covid. No teacher has done it like you, nor understood us. I truly appreciate everything you have done for me since the beginning of the school year.

Mrs. Poff

Even though we only met this school year, I am very thankful for being my chemistry teacher. Even though I don’t understand what we are learning half of the time, you teaching the lesson makes chemistry less unbearable. Thank you for caring for your classes and students. I will miss you when I graduate next year but thank you for the great memories.

Dear Mrs. Maher,

HAPPY TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK!

Thank you for everything you have done for not only me but the entire school. The theatre department without you, and of course Mrs. Silver too, would not be as amazing as it is now. I know the pandemic ruined many of our shows, but you helped us adapt and overcome that. We were still able to perform in some way, thanks to you. You really made the theatre department special at West Haven High School. The theatre community will miss you greatly at the high school, I am sure of it.

Not only have you done so much for the school, but you have also done so much for me personally as well. Since freshman year, you have been my favorite teacher (but don’t tell my other teachers that). You have been a support system to me and have truly helped me out during some of my toughest times, whether you knew it or not. I cannot thank you enough for what you have done for me. I know I probably have not said thank you enough, but here I am writing about it for you.

You were one of the first people to truly make me feel welcomed at the high school my freshman year. I was terrified of coming to this school, but I had your acting class first period on my first day, and everything after that seemed like it was going to be all right. I was petrified walking into your class, but you were so welcoming, and I instantly fell in love with theatre even more after that. I knew I had to join. We are a senior, and I am still as in love with theatre as your class made me feel in 2017. Four years later and that feeling has never faded.

You have impacted so many people in your life, and I can tell you every one of us is truly grateful for you. Thank you for being a part of my life, and thank you for everything you have done for me. I do not know how I could ever repay you for everything. I could have never asked for a better community to be a part of than the theatre department.

It was truly an easy choice when picking whom I would write this letter for. You deserve it and a million other letters from current theatre kids and alumni from all over. Just know that we all truly will never forget the impact you made on our lives.

Thank you for everything!

Sincerely,

Lauren Panza

Class of 2021

P.S.- Why do we do this?

The teacher that I would like to recognize for teacher appreciation week is Mrs.Plumey. Mrs.Plumey is an amazing teacher. She is very hardworking, kind, and understanding. When I transferred schools at the beginning of the year, Mrs.Plumey was very welcoming and kind and helped me out a lot! Although her class may be a little tough sometimes, she makes sure that her students understand what she gave us, and if we need any help at all, she is always there. Mrs.Plumey is very dedicated and motivated. She is a very special teacher, and I believe she should be recognized. Thank you for being such an excellent teacher who has made an environment of enthusiasm for learning, appreciation, growing, and plenty of room for mistakes along the way. You have had such a positive impact on my learning experience. Mrs.Plumey is that one teacher that you can always count on and ask for help. She is very understanding. I am very appreciative that I have gotten the opportunity to have Mrs.Plumey as my teacher this year. I came into WHHS as a transfer student and was very nervous, but Mrs.Plumey made me feel very welcomed and ready to learn. I want to thank Mrs.Plumey for welcoming me into her classroom for a very great learning experience in English II honors this year. Thank you, Mrs.Plumey, for teaching with love and effort, and energy that draws in every student.

-Nasia Hammac

Dear Ms.Goodwin,

With the advent of the end of the school year, I want to make sure that you know that I appreciate you for being a wonderful teacher. You have been a great teacher, you always cared about your student, and you made a huge impact not just on me but even on my siblings who were in your class in the past years. You worked hard to help us be the best students and even better people, and I want you to know that all the things you do for your students are noticed. You made school much more fun, your class is the most enjoyable, and it’s the best part of the school. I'm grateful that I have you as my teacher, and you will always be my favorite teacher. Thank you for your hard work, especially at this time during the pandemic.

Sincerely,

Riyad Faris

Dear Ms. McDevitt,

Thanks so much for taking the time to be so organized. I know it takes a while, but it’s very helpful to know what we’re doing, in what order, etc., since there are so many separate assignments sometimes. Thanks for always answering my questions and going through assignments with us, so we’re not clueless. It must’ve been hard to transform a very hands-on, group-oriented class into something completely online. Still, all the EdPuzzles and everything else really helps me feel like we’re not missing out on too much of the experience. Thank you!

Danielle Ricketts

Dear Ms. Palmer,

I really enjoyed your class when I was in-person learning because it was so interesting. Thank you for not overwhelming us with assignments and understanding anything I talk to you about! Your class has really taught me a lot about America that I didn't know before, and I feel like a more functional member of society because of it.

Danielle Ricketts

Dear Mrs. Poff,

I just wanted to thank you for always making sure we understand the topics we're learning and always willing to go through them with us. Thank you also for incorporating the DL learners so much. I’ve been distance learning for many months now and don’t feel at a loss in your class. It’s very evident that you love and are very knowledgeable about what you’re teaching, which makes me like chem!

Danielle Ricketts

Dear Mrs. Fanelli,

I just wanted to thank you for all you’ve done for our AP Lit class so far in helping us get ready for the exam. I would’ve never found the time to watch those AP Daily Videos on my own, so I’m really thankful you assigned them for our journals. You’ve fostered a class environment where I can feel comfortable participating and asking questions that are so important to me. I really appreciate how understanding you are as a teacher :)

Danielle Ricketts

Dear Mr. Consorte,

Thank you for being one of the main reasons I don’t mind waking up to open my laptop every morning.

Although I think all my teachers are great, none of them are quite like you. I can’t name another teacher that is so passionate about their job as much as you are. If there’s any teacher that truly loves teaching, it’s definitely you! Every time you log into your laptop, you are always so happy. You are always so full of energy and ready to go, whether it’s the start of the morning or late in the afternoon. Saying good morning to you is one of the highlights of my day. I can recall many times where I’ve logged into my laptop and joined my other classes, but I was never actually excited to be on there. Personally, I’m not a morning person, but your high vibrancy never fails to wake me up and keep me engaged.

So many times, I have watched you be in front of the class, eyes closed, talking away, having absolutely no doubts about the things you were teaching us. I could never get bored of your random jokes and unexpected waves of excitement, where you raise your voice and make some of us crack a smile. I could never get tired of all your motivational Mondays and how proud you are of all the PowerPoint that you take time to make for us. Your class may be difficult, and you may think you are a pain in the but, but you're one of the best teachers I could’ve asked for this year.

You are the teacher I know I can count on for anything, and someone whom I know will always be there. There have been times where I’ve sent you a text or an email late a night, and you still managed to reply. Even if it was for something last minute, you always had my back. You have never once failed to acknowledge all the hard work and dedication that I put into my schoolwork, and you never forget to tell me that I did an awesome job.

Sometimes as students, that’s all we really need. We need someone who will push us to be the best students we can be and someone who sees we have potential and makes sure we know that. Therefore, I’ve decided to in return write you this letter for all the times that you’ve shown me that you care. You have not only been a great teacher to me, but you have also been my friend. Because of this, I appreciate you.

PS: I do mean it when I say you're the G.O.A.T lol 🐐

Sincerely,

Adela Otajagic

Dear Mrs. Cosenza <3

Thank you for being an awesome nursing teacher this year; you make nursing really fun, but there could be times things get hard, and we gotta do the best we can to get things done in class. There was once where I felt like giving up on nursing because things were getting very hard, and I thought nursing wasn’t for me. Still, the more I kept trying and practicing my CNA skills, I started to love nursing even more and told myself that life is never going to be easy or being a nurse wasn’t always going to be easy. There would always be hard times in life being a nurse. We all have to deal with it and work very hard. Thanks to you, Mrs. Cosenza, I didn't give up on anything. You made me better and stronger to become a nurse. All I ever do at home is watch nurses do their CNA skills videos on youtube to help me become better at it, so when whenever I come to nursing class to do my skills, I already know what to do and what to say to the patient. I love practicing my skills. At first, I was very nervous because I did not know what to do and what to say to the patient. I also kept forgetting stuff during my skill, but now I know I got better. I know what to do. I'm always ready to start. Things just got easier because I kept practicing at home and watching videos all the time on how to do my skills. Thanks to you, Mrs. Cosenza. You are an amazing nursing teacher, and I’m very happy you helped your other students and me with nursing.

Sincerely: Kimberly Colindres

Dear Mr. Fallon,

I want to thank you for being my academic lab teacher, helping me out with my assignments, and helping me get all caught up with all of my assignments that I needed to do and what I am missing. Mostly I like to chill in your class and sticking in your class right now. Thank you for bringing a smile to my face every day I come into your class. I’m really glad and pleased to be in your class right now at this time. I want to thank you for everything and for making the school positive. I worked hard and independently to do my assignments, and I am very proud of doing that. Thank you for everything and for helping me get on track with what I am focusing on. I hope you have a great day and always be positive.

Dear Ms. Skelly,

Although you may not know me personally, I look forward to your classes even if there was a quiz or test. You let us, the distant workers at least, work how we want. In addition, you constantly offer after-school classes to help other students. I know it’s hard to teach when half or a third of the course is listening from their homes. It’s awkward to sit in silence until someone answered, so I want to tell you that I am grateful to have you as a teacher. The way you teach allowed me to learn easier, so thank you so much for everything. As a student, you have made life less stressful. The work you give out is comprehensible, and I’m glad to have it. So, again, thank you for teaching me this year. I owe gratitude to you, and I am happy to have you as a teacher.

Your student,

Joyce Delgado

Dear Ms. McDevitt,

Hi, I just wanted to say that you are very kind. You understand that students are having a difficult time learning in this pandemic, and you constantly give chances to let people fix their mistakes. I’m very grateful to have a teacher who tries to understand their students' mental health despite the circumstances. In addition to that, you make plans to better those who are down. Although there were many times I did struggle in your class, I still appreciate that you are my teacher. You make me feel like my problems are not going unheard. So again, thank you for being a teacher, and I wish I can show you my gratitude.

Your student,

Joyce Delgado

I, Lance Andriulli would like to nominate Ms. Cosenza for the HOSA club advisor. She let me join and encouraged me to become the coordinator for ASL in our club. She also was available to help me when I prepared my speech and won a State Level Gold Medal. She is also working with me and my schedule for next year that I get to go to her class twice a week which is new and exciting. This will be a test for all students in the future that I have to fulfill and accomplish as a special needs student. Thank you for being there and helping so much.

I, Lance Andriulli nominate Ms. Silver. What can I say, I have had Ms. Silver for three years, and her instruction in Music is excellent. She brings experience and knowledge only a well educated instructor could bring. She cares about her students and in homework makes good suggestions for us to improve. Hopefully we can have concerts again next year. Thank you.

I, Lance Andriulli nominate Ms. Jacobs. She has a hard class with students with special needs and teaches Language Arts. She has worked hard to upload, and have books printed for distant learners and is successful. We have studied a book on all types of subjects, feelings and deep thought. Thank you.

I, Lance Andriulli, nominate Mr. Pelatowski for Issues in Government. Mr. Pelatowski makes us search for answers, using a lot of his exciting presentations and topics. I have learned a lot about Government this year in a great way, not boring and in a very detailed way, plus I get to do slides and homework that I must research and submit. Thank you.

I, Lance Andriull, nominate Mr. Klein. He teaches Consumer Math and goes way out of his way every day, offering extra help after school. He has a lot of patience, and I have learned a lot of life skills in Math to help me in the world today. He always accepts my questions and gives an answer. Thank you, Mr. Klein.

I, Lance Andriulli nominate Ms. Mihalyak for being a great teacher. She teaches many classes and has some students that always give her trouble. I am distant learning this year, and her presentations are always bright and cleverly done with a message that makes us think and do appropriate things in life. Thank you for all your hard work.

I, Lance Andriulli would like to nominate Mr. Trenchard. He is a great teacher and teaches World History thru Star Wars, which makes it very interesting. We compare both the movies and history together and it makes learning fun and interesting. I think this is a great class and I have learned a lot from Mr. Trenchard. Well done. Thank you.

Dear Mrs. Cummings,

This year was a little wild and different, but I was glad to be able to spend it in your class. Between Digital Media & Journalism and The Rostrum, I feel like the times I had by you were the best I had this school year. I’m excited about every meeting we have and every Zoom class, too. I love how you shake things up, so it’s a little different each day.

Even on days when I was sad, just knowing that I could work on a new article for The Rostrum lifted my spirits a little. Every piece I write, everyone I’m proud of, I couldn’t have done without you. You always know how to make the best edits possible when we put our heads together. I always love hearing your advice on how to make a story sound better when read.

Going to your classes and spending time with you is always fun! We do something different every day, so I never know what to expect. I can’t wait to see you in Advanced Journalism next year and find out what else you have in store for the class. Hopefully, it’ll be in person this time, so you can finally see me as much as I see you.

All I’m trying to say is, thank you. Thank you for always being a super-fun, amazing teacher. It makes it a little easier to want to learn in your classes.

Sincerely,

Nevaeh Lugo

Mrs. Cosenza… You have been probably the greatest teacher I’ve ever had my entire life.
You’ve done your absolute best to make this subject so fun and have very much succeeded in
doing so! I was never really heavily into this subject until you came along and motivated me to
push forward, which ended up having me fall in love with it. I’ll never forget all the laughs we all
had as a class and all the fun things we got to do and talk about. We all love you!

School 9/10 times is the most boring thing in the world. Could make it a 10/10. Mr. Dandelske which I think I never called him, because I called him Mr. was a pretty good teacher. We were watching movies in class like every week and work wasn't too hard. Usually I don't like the teachers. My favorite one was this guy named Mr. Rose from 4th grade to go with Mr. Dandelske. Probably my second. He was a cool guy who bonded with his students, and was never mean in class or anything like that, he sold snacks in which I tried to get a free one a couple times which never worked but yea. Still say what up to him when I see him and yeah, pretty chill teacher.

To Ms.Deninger,
I appreciate you and your efforts very much! It’s a joy to be in your class. I really enjoy
your teaching style, it helps me comprehend what I’m supposed to learn. You make learning fun!
I also really like how funny and how kind of awkward you are, it reminds me of myself!! I wish
there were more teachers like you out there. Furthermore, I wish you all the best and I hope
you’re very successful!! You’re my #1 favorite teacher!!

These past three years i’ve spent at west haven high school have been interesting, after
careful consideration, I have concluded the Best Teachers in this school is Mr.Shine and
Mr.Martin, there's no debate im sorry.

Miss. Morell, You bring our class happiness. You bring our class warmth; you bring your all to the table. You treat us like your children, like a mother bird scooping up her babies with her wing and holding them close. You pay attention to close detail and birthdays. You care and tend to your students who need it the most. You push us to be the best person we could ever be in this world and push us to know the truth even if it's harsh, which I admire about you. You relate and connect with us and talk to our class as if we aren't just your students but actual young adults. Meraki: To do something with soul, creativity, or love; to put something of yourself in your work. It’s a modern greek word that describes you. Thank you for your actual concern for your students. Thank you for checking in on us. Thank you for giving 110% all the time... And thank you for being the imperfect being you are.

Ms goodwin is a fantastic teacher, person, and friend. I haven't been treated like this by an ELA teacher since the 3rd grade, and she somehow makes me feel loved and wanted. I know that I can talk to her about anything if I have to. She won't judge me or call me names or tell me to do better, she just helps me out, and I appreciate her for that. She Is like a mother to me, a mother that teaches me ELA, of course. I wish her the best in life, and I can’t wait to see her face when I graduate.

Torrin Berry

Mr. DiGioia, I’ve never found stability; I’m always moving around, meeting new and intriguing students and staff. I honestly never felt at home. I’ve never truly felt wanted. That changed when I strolled in your class. Everyone made me feel comfortable; everyone made me feel okay. The masks will never truly get rid of the beauty that everyone in our class holds. Thank you, sir, for showing me how a loving teacher and a class could be like. Thank you for encouraging me to answer the questions when I’m unsure if I’m correct. Thank you for your time and patience. Thank you for your honesty. I thank you for everything and wish nothing but greatness, happiness, and WELLNESS! For you and your family and our great class.

Dear, Ms.DiGuilio
Throughout this year it has been challenging for me to understand anything clearly and adjust to this new learning environment. This class really helped me in a lot of ways. I’ve changed my favorite class to science because of how you teach. My opinion is that you teach from a beginner perspective and I appreciate that.I would get confused on one question and ask for help and I wouldn't even have to ask again. You really did an excellent job on being a distant learning teacher. I would’ve really loved to take your class in person .❤️ Danasha Culton

To Mrs. Moore. I want to say thank you. I also appreciate all you do to make math more enjoyable when you use Hershey Kisses for math examples.

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week.

Thank you, William Lopes

When I hear that teacher appreciation day is here, an individual instantly comes to my mind. That person is you, Ms. Brown! Happy teacher appreciation day! You are highly appreciated, and I want you to know that! You go above and beyond for your students. We all have those tough days that seem so hard that we feel we might not get through, but no matter what kind of day you were having, I noticed you always made sure to come in with such a positive attitude. You are very strong! I know that being a teacher is not easy and can come with many difficult challenges, and I am very proud of you for always trying and making an effort to do all you can in and out of the classroom. Your kind heart and the positivity you give out goes a long way and can hold so much value to someone. There were days I had come into your class, and I was a bit down/upset, and you noticed and took the time to ask me if I was okay. It is the
little things like that matter. It did mean a lot to hear that, and it shows how caring you are! Your positivity and encouragement brightened my days and kept me going. I am so grateful you were my teacher, and I am happy that other kids will get to come across you. Many teens go through things in and
out of high school, and there can be so much negativity in this world but having a classroom that is such a positive environment that makes you feel welcomed and being led by an amazing, thoughtful, kind, intelligent, hard-working, motivational, teacher impacts and helps a lot! I thank you for everything and just know you are doing a great job, and your hard work does not go unnoticed! - Emily Brownell :)
